Invurt and The ReVurt Project in conjunction with Rival Revolution present…

Invert
Invurt is a blog providing information on street, urban, illustrative and genre defying, non-contemporary art to readers around the world. It specialises in events and artists who are working, displaying and visiting Australia – particularly with a focus on exhibitions the artists are partaking in. We are a no fuss, no muss blog with an attention to two specific details – who are the artist, and what there are doing.
We believe that this minimal approach to covering artists and exhibitions allows a detailed view of what is happening in Australasia, within the community we love.
Drawing on an extensive background and passion for art, Invurt hopes to provide comprehensive coverage of both established and upcoming Australian, and visiting, artists making their way through the creative world. We try to provide an eclectic, thoughtful look at the interactions between art, music and modern culture, and to document the various artists who make up the new movements in art and culture that are emerging around us.

The ReVurt Project…..

It can often be very difficult for street artists to find walls that they are able to safely paint, without fear of legal issues – so, one day, we realised that there must be a better way.

With huge support from Melbourne artists, as well as members of the local business community, what started as an embroyonic idea the head of Invurt magazine editor, Facter, has now turned into a fully fledged collaborative project in the form of ReVurt.

ReVurt aims to be an organised attempt by a wide range of invidividuals, crews, organisations and businesses, our friends and families, to help find and provide walls and places to paint around local communities, where artists have the opportunity to paint in safety, and to enhance local areas with vibrant artwork.

Melissa Williams

Misprint is a freelance designer from Melbourne with a love for organic illustration and ornamentation.

“I have travelled the world for some time, becoming more and more inspired by the amount of beautiful art different countries have to offer. My love for nature and the intricate features in organic forms is evident in the depth and detail of my work. Most of my artwork uses a combination of hand drawn motifs, painting, photography and digital large scale printing on canvas.
Please take the time to look at some of my work, and feel free to contact me for any freelance opportunities or questions you may have!”

ExRobot

ExRobot

ExRobot is a Melbourne based stencil artist well known for his bold use of black and white imagery, single layers and minimal style. Exploring the use of negative space, contrast and “the rule of thirds”, ExRobot’s works often say a lot more than what first appears. Be it an unbalance in the composition to further emphasise an uncomfortable scene, or a flowing line that traps the viewer in a loop they are unable to disengage from, the viewer is often asked to engage and participate emotionally. Often requiring them to complete the picture in their own minds eye. ExRobot regularly exhibits at Prahran’s Art Boy Gallery and will be appearing at a handful of music festivals around Victoria over summer. Andrew Sieker

Andrew Sieker is an emerging artist based in the southeast suburbs of Melbourne. Andrew predominantly works in airbrush and acrylic on canvas, and also has skills in sculpture, illustration, digital art and design. Heavily influenced by sci-fi culture, psychedelic art, pop surrealism, and concept art, his work has a strong emphasis on freeform and abstract pattern, with themes of an abigous relation between an imaginative kitsch cosmic inwards/outwards universe. With a strong emphasis on colour, pattern and loose brushwork, the images that emerge offer sense of dreamlike exploration in alien worlds, where a vague sense of the familiar offers multiple avenues for interpretation.

Andrew Began studying Cert IV in graphic design at Swinburne in 2006, Then moved on in 2007 to study in a Bachelor of Visual art and design an ACU. In 2011, He deferred his studies to work on developing a painting studio. So far in 2011 Andrew has been making private sales of his work, Displayed and painted live at events such as Killcouture at Royal Melbourne Hotel, and Yellow sunshine Launch party. Future aims and goals include returning in 2012 to complete his Bachelor, build a body of work to host a solo exhibition, and involve and immerse himself with community based, as well as funded and private art initiatives and projects. Long term goals include developing a broad yet identifiable style applicable across multiple media platforms, for use in both commercial and experimental applications.

Jianna Lucia

“I have an appreciation and love for the arts and life in general.
I am currently based in Melbourne, and have previously been
based in Byron Bay where I completed a bachelor degree in
visual arts, majoring in painting.
I am interested in art curation and the hybridization and juxtaposition
of arts genres, I enjoy combining a broad spectrum of different means of creative arts
practices together, such as illustration, painting, graphic design, toymaking, singing and writing.

I recently curated the 100 Fires art exhibition at the Rites Of Passage tattoo convention in January 2011 in Melbourne.
And have been part of the Hello Poster show, a group exhibition held at 1000 pound bend in December 2010.
I have Also Worked as a Graphic Designer for Australian Tattooz Magazine and as an apprentice Tattooist @ Cemetery Gates Tattoo and 696 Ink.
I am currently a part of Rival Revolution an Invurt studios in Melbourne City.

like the idea of the visual representation of urban and man made concepts and constructs that are in and around our everyday life in the city and industrial designed environment of the metropolis in the year 2011.

I like to take these objects and devices out of context to televised reality and recreate this imagery by juxtaposing and contrasting these innovative ideas to the natural environment, objects and human lifeforms according to the processes of life in plants, animals and the essences of humanity in tribal societies.
I like to constantly draw comparisons of these ideas of humanity within and outside the man made and natural environment using artistic means and practices through my work.”

James Flaxman

James Flaxman was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1978, but has since moved to Melbourne and never looked back. His work draws on a wide range of sources; while traditional Western painters of the fifteenth to nineteenth century hold his highest admiration, he has also been influenced by everything from ancient myths to contemporary game design. The themes he explores are just as diverse. Some are deeply personal, some poke fun at popular culture, and others deal with such timeless issues as what it truly means to be human, how the world we build affects us in return, our struggle to invest life with meaning and our enduring legacy.
